LOVE+HATE Lacks Drama, Misses Point
The first performance I caught on Thursday’s opening night was LOVE+HATE, directed by Emma Ferrante and featuring the locally adored musical collective, the PepTides. A “musical playscape” that takes a look at the ever conflictual feelings of love and hate, this show combines lyrics taken from a couple of the PepTides albums with skits portraying “civilization livin’ at the end of the world” that look at what makes us human. I think it goes without saying that musically this show is excellent; however, the lack of drama makes it difficult for me to see how this show represents excellence in theatrical performance.
